Babywearing is beneficial for both parent
and child in many ways, however it is
important that the baby carrier is used
with safety in mind.
Guidelines for
safe & ergonomic
babywearing
25CONNECT PLUS PRODUCT GUIDE
T.I.C.K.S rule
The T.I.C.K.S rule for safe
babywearing keeps your
baby close and safe.
T Tight
The carrier should be tight enough to hug your
baby close to you.
IIn view at all times
You should always be able to see your baby’s
face by simply glancing down.
CClose enough to kiss
Your baby’s head should be as close to your
chin as is comfortable.
KKeep chin o the chest
Your baby should never be curled so their chin is
forced onto their chest as this can restrict their
breathing.
SSupported back
In an upright carry a baby should be held
comfortably to the wearer so their back is
supported in its natural position ‘C shape and
their tummy and chest are against you. Check
your baby in the carrier frequently to monitor
your baby’s breathing and ensure your baby’s
airways are always open. The safest position is
for your babys face to be turned away from your
body with their chin away from their chest.
REDSBABY.COM.AU
Ergonomic
positioning of your
baby in the carrier
TheM position
The healthiest position to carry your
baby, especially in the fir st 6 months, is
to position your baby in the carrie r in the
‘M position.
This all ows their thighs to sit aro und yo ur
tor so with hips bent so the knees are
slightl y higher than their bottom, with
their thighs supported.
The Newborn Conguration’s design
supports this position. You should always
check and adjust your baby to e nsure
they are in this po siti on especially up to
6 mo nths, even when they are no l onger
positioned in the Newborn Conguration.
CONNECT PLUS PRODUCT GUIDE
TheC shape
Your infant’s back should always be
naturally rounded in the ‘C’ shape. As
your baby grows, their spine strengthens
(usually between 6 to 12 months).
Positioning your baby in theM’ position
helps your babys spine to remain in the
‘C shape.
Visit redsbaby.com.au for more
information on safe baby carr ying.
