everybedroom,children'sroomandhallway.Inhabitable

attics,asmokealarmshouldbeinstalledabovethestairs.

Thealarmsoundmustbeloudenoughtowakesleeping

residentsinthecaseoffire.

Inthecaseofopenconnectionsbetweenfloors,onesmoke

alarmshouldbeinstalledoneachlevel.

Smokealarmsmustbeinstalledontheceiling,asclosetothe

centeroftheceilingaspossible.Theminimumdistanceto

walls,lightfittings,electricalwiringsandapplilances,beams,

andfurnituremustbe50cm.

Inroomswheretheceilinghasaslopeof>20°,"dead"airat

thepeakoftheceilingmaypreventthesmokefromrising.

Thereforeintheserooms,thesmokealarmsmustbeinstalled

min.0.5mandmax.1mfromthepeakoftheceiling.Ceilings

withaninclinationof20°shouldberegardedashorizontal

ceilings.

InL-shapedrooms,thesmokealarmshouldbeinstalledatthe

mitreline(seediagram).InlargeL-shapedrooms,eachside

oftheroomshouldberegardedasaseparateroom.

Themaximuminstallationheightofasmokealarmshouldnot

exceed6m.

Roomsthatareseparatedbypartitionwalls,beams,or

furniture,shouldbeprotectedbyasmokealarmineachpartof

theroom.

Iftheroomislargerthan60m²,theinstallationofadditional

smokealarmsisnecessary.

Inhallwayswithamaximumbreadthof3m,thedistance

betweentwosmokealarmsmustnotexceed15m.The

distanceofasmokealarmtotheendwallmustnotexceed

7.5m.Ineachintersection,junction,andcornerofahallway,

theremustbeonesmokealarm(mitreline).

Thesmokealarmshouldbeeasilyaccessibletocarryout

cleaningandtesting.

Thissmokealarmdetectssmokefromsmolderingfiresatanearlystageandwarnswithaloudpulsatingalarm

(85dBA/3m).Itisdesignedfortheuseinprivatehouseholdsandhabitablerecreationalvehiclesandisnot

approvedforpublic,industrialorcommercialbuildings.Thefieldsofoperationofsmokealarmsaredescribed

inDIN14676.Inthecaseoffire,smokealarmscanonlygivealarm,ifthesmokereachesthem.Everything

thatpreventsthesmokefromenteringthesmokealarm'shousingmaydelayorevenpreventthealarm.Afire

inanotherroom,floor,orareaofthehomewillonlybereportedwhenthesmokereachesthesmokealarm.For

thisreason,youshouldinstallasmokealarmineveryroom-atleastoneoneachfloor,observetheminimum

protectionaccordingtoyourlocallegislation.Smokealarmsarenosubstituteforapropertyorlifeinsurance.

Appropriatecoverageisyourresponsibility.Thissmokealarmisnotsuitablefordeafpersons.

Contaminationofthesmokealarmbydustordirtmayleadtofalsealarms.Ifthedirtcannotberemovedfrom

outsideasdescribedinthechapter"Maintenance/Cleaning",theunithastobereplacedbyanewone.Thereis
